The Sun Fast 30 One Design is a one-design class boat for multi-day offshore racing, aimed squarely at amateur sailors. She's built in France, comes fully equipped for racing and is easy to maintain, and there's a busy calendar of international races planned for the class.
Three partners worked on the project, each bringing their own expertise. The hull is infusion-moulded, which keeps her strong and stiff while holding the weight down. The bow is slightly rounded and takes its cue from scow designs, the idea being lively handling whatever the speed. The autopilot and electronics have been picked for double-handed racing, and even for going offshore single-handed.
She's also the first production sailboat built from a recyclable composite material. The class rules set durability criteria, and the equipment has been chosen and designed to stand up to intensive offshore use, so she's a real step towards sailing with a lighter environmental footprint.
