Fraud prevention and avoidance
Simple checks that keep your money safe when you buy or sell a boat with us.
Fraudsters target boat buyers and sellers, often by pretending to be a broker and sending false bank details. We take the security of our clients seriously and have checks in place, and we may sometimes ask you for extra checks too. Please bear with us; they protect everyone involved.
Before you send any money
- Check the email address. Our emails end exactly @euroyachts.com. Watch for tiny differences.
- Confirm our bank details by phone before every first payment, using a number from this website such as 01475 687204, never one given in an email.
- We will never change our bank details by email, text or message. Treat any such request as fraud.
- Send a small amount first if it's your first payment to us, and wait for us to confirm we've received it before sending the rest.
- Check the name. Your bank may tell you whether the account name matches; if it doesn't, stop and call us.
- If anything feels wrong, phone us first. We'll never mind you checking.
If you think you've been targeted
- Call your bank straight away. Dial 159 to reach most UK banks securely.
- Report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 (in Scotland, Police Scotland on 101).
- Tell us, so we can investigate anyone pretending to be Euroyachts or asking for money on our behalf.
If you've been tricked into making a bank transfer, UK rules normally require your bank to reimburse you, up to a set limit, so report it promptly.
Questions
How can I tell an email is really from Euroyachts?
Our emails come from addresses ending exactly @euroyachts.com. Fraudsters use look-alike addresses with small changes, such as an extra letter or a different ending. If in doubt, phone us on a number from our website, not one in the email.
Will Euroyachts ever change bank details by email?
No. We will never change our bank details by email, text or message. If you receive a message saying our details have changed, do not pay: phone us on a number from our website first.
What should I do if I think I have been scammed?
Contact your bank straight away; you can call 159 to reach most UK banks securely. Then report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 (or Police Scotland on 101 in Scotland), and tell us so we can investigate anyone pretending to be us.
Can I get my money back after a bank transfer scam?
Under UK rules, banks and payment firms must normally reimburse victims of authorised push payment (APP) fraud, up to a set limit, if it is reported promptly. Contact your bank as soon as possible.
