Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40, photo 1 of 1

A 40 foot cruising yacht from Jeanneau's earlier range, drawn by Daniel Andrieu, with twin wheels and a roomy interior for owners planning longer passages.

Twin wheels on a 40 footer were an original idea when Jeanneau built this boat, and it's still the first thing you notice in the aft cockpit. Two helm stations give the helmsman a proper seat on either side and leave the middle of the cockpit clear for everyone else.

She's no longer in production, so any you'll see now are previously owned. Daniel Andrieu drew her hull with performance in mind, and it's a quick shape, yet there's a surprising amount of room below.

Inside, the design office followed the general layout and thinking of the Sun Odyssey 40DS. The woodwork is teak finished in satin varnish.

Owners could choose from 3 interior layouts. For a couple, the 2 cabin version puts the owner's cabin forward and gives you a big U-shaped galley. The 3 cabin, 1 head arrangement keeps a large forward cabin and has a separate shower area in the head, while the 3 cabin, 2 head version suits a family or two couples sailing together. Jeanneau intended every one of them for long-range cruising.

Length overall is 12.2 m on a hull length of 11.75 m, and she draws 1.5 m. She carries 136 l of fuel and 320 l of fresh water.
